The Entire System Deployed for One Examinee: Magistrate, 18 Surveillance Teams, and 12 Police Officers
Extraordinary measures were taken in Garhwa district, Jharkhand, for the matriculation exam of a single student, Shankar Kumar Singh, which included extensive security and surveillance.
The examination season has begun across India, with matriculation and intermediate exams being held nationwide. In an unusual case in the Garhwa district of Jharkhand, the local administration took extensive measures for the exam of a single student, Shankar Kumar Singh, who chose music as his subject. This led to a significant mobilization of resources including the placement of a magistrate, 18 monitoring teams, and 12 police officers for just one examinee, sparking discussions about the efficiency of such extreme measures.
While there were a total of 406 students registered at the examination center, only three were absent, making the arrangements for Shankar Kumar Singh stand out. The head of the examination center, Harsh Jyoti Shukla, emphasized that basic amenities like drinking water and sanitation facilities were also provided for the students. All the examinations were conducted under strict surveillance, with CCTV cameras installed throughout the hall, ensuring the integrity of the examination process.
The deployment of such a large security system for just one student raises questions about resource allocation and highlights the challenges faced in preventing exam cheating, a pervasive issue in educational institutions across India. While the government aims to maintain the sanctity of examinations, the incident places a spotlight on the balance between necessary security measures and potential overreach in administrative decisions regarding academic assessments.
