Hirman: There is no threat of oil shortage for Slovnaft, the Adria pipeline can supply Slovakia and Hungary
Energy expert Karel Hirman reassures that Slovakia and Hungary will not face an oil shortage despite disruptions from Russian drone attacks on the Druzhba pipeline.
In a recent interview, Karel Hirman, an energy expert from the Democratic Party and former Minister of Economy, discussed the impacts of Russian drone strikes that have damaged the Druzhba pipeline, which has halted the flow of oil from Ukraine for three weeks. Hirman criticized the Slovak government for its silence on what he considers a serious situation and labeled their response inadequate, suggesting that it warrants a resignation.
Despite these concerns, Hirman remains optimistic about the oil supply situation in Slovakia and Hungary. He states that both countries will not face shortages due to the availability of 90-day oil reserves and the operational efficiency of the Adria pipeline. He emphasizes that the Adria pipeline can adequately supply both Slovnaft and Hungary’s Százhalombatta refinery, contrary to claims made by some Slovak politicians, ensuring that neither refinery has to halt production.
Moreover, Hirman noted that while the Adria pipeline is a reliable alternative, challenges may arise related to the different types of oil that Slovnaft can process. This aspect could complicate the efficiency of ensuring both refineries receive the necessary types of oil, but overall, the expected supply remains stable and sustainable in the face of current disruptions.
