Preparations for Closure: Syrian Authorities Begin Transferring Residents of "Al-Hol Camp" to Aleppo Countryside

Syrian authorities have initiated a significant operation to transfer residents of the Al-Hol camp in Hasakah to the Aleppo countryside in preparation for the camp's closure.

Syrian authorities have begun a large-scale operation to relocate the remaining residents of the Al-Hol camp in Hasakah to the northern Aleppo countryside. This move is part of a strategy aimed at permanently closing the camp within a week. On Tuesday, a convoy carrying hundreds of women and children arrived at the Aq Barhan camp near the town of Akhtarin, accompanied by Syrian Internal Security Forces and Civil Defense units.

According to the Aleppo Media Directorate, as reported by the provincial International Cooperation Directorate, hundreds of Al-Hol camp residents have been successfully transferred to the new camp near Akhtarin. The director indicated that the Ministry of Social Affairs, along with the Syrian Red Crescent and other relevant authorities, have developed a plan that includes rehabilitation programs, school construction, the establishment of a health center, and the creation of public facilities to serve these families. Additional convoys to transfer more families are expected to arrive in the coming days.

This development follows the withdrawal of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) from the area in late January, as part of an integration agreement with the military forces. The closure of Al-Hol camp reflects ongoing shifts in security and administrative control in northern Syria and indicates the Syrian government’s attempts to regain authority over the region, possibly impacting local populations who have been displaced due to the conflict.
