Bullrich admitted the 'error' with sick leave in the labor reform
Argentina's Patricia Bullrich acknowledged a mistake in the labor reform related to sick leave regulations, promising a correction in the next parliamentary session.
Patricia Bullrich, the leader of the ruling party bloc in the Argentine Senate, publicly acknowledged a significant oversight regarding Article 44 of the proposed labor reform, which concerns medical leave. During a recent statement, she expressed that the reforms failed to adequately differentiate between severe and non-severe illnesses when it comes to the eligibility for sick leave.
Bullrich emphasized the need for corrections as the proposal progresses to the Chamber of Deputies, indicating that the issue should have received more technical attention amid the broader legislative efforts. She accepted the responsibility for the error and remarked on how such oversights can occur amidst the complexity of legislating numerous articles within a comprehensive reform package, which includes 210 articles in total.
The recognition of this mistake comes at a time when the labor reform is surrounded by various controversies, hinting at the pressures and challenges faced by the Argentine government as it attempts to enact significant changes in labor policy. The move to fix this issue may address some of the public and political backlash regarding the reform's implementation and impact on workers' rights.
