Monsters in the Beds. Review of the Dailes Theatre's production 'Dream Novel'
A review of the Dailes Theatre's adaptation of Arthur Schnitzler's 'Dream Novel', which explores subconscious desires and experiences through a surreal narrative.
The Dailes Theatre's new adaptation of Arthur Schnitzler's novella 'Dream Novel' captivates with its exploration of subconscious desires, utilizing elements from the original text written nearly a century ago. The narrative, which first stirred controversy in Vienna for its overt exploration of sexuality, follows Dr. Fridolin who, just before sleep, exchanges fantasies about an underage girl with his wife, Albertine. This marks the beginning of Dr. Fridolin's descent into a chaotic world of suppressed desires where night cloaks a string of enigmatic encounters, including secret parties and visits to a morgue, before he returns to his marital bed.
