KKE: We will not legitimize the showcase committee for the 'National Diploma' with our participation

The KKE party criticizes the Greek Ministry of Education's proposed changes to the National Diploma system, stating that they aim to create a more classist education system.

Giannis Delis, a member of the Greek Communist Party (KKE) and the Parliamentary Committee on Educational Affairs, has voiced strong criticism against the leadership of the Ministry of Education regarding the proposed changes associated with the implementation of the National Diploma ("Εθνικό Απολυτήριο"). He emphasized that the KKE's decision to not legitimize the Ministry's so-called 'showcase committee' reflects a principled stance against what they view as a predetermined anti-educational policy. Delis underscored that the proposed changes threaten to make the educational system even more classist by placing the burden of national-level exams on students from the age of 15.

Delis further argued that these alterations would distance Lyceum from its educational purpose, turning it into a mechanism purely focused on preparing students for exams rather than fostering learning. He contended that no dialogue committee could obscure the intentions behind these reforms. He accused the Ministry of Education of having already made decisions that are simply seeking collaborators to implement this agenda, rather than genuinely engaging in a conversation about educational reform.

The KKE's refusal to participate in what it describes as a ceremonial committee highlights its commitment to advocating for a fairer educational system, opposing policies they believe will deepen social inequalities. By publicly rejecting the committee, the KKE aims to position itself as a defender of educational integrity and to rally support against these changes, raising awareness about potential negative impacts on the education system in Greece.
