He left the child on the ground in the snow: the driver will no longer drive
A bus driver in Italy has been reassigned to a different role after being involved in an incident where a child was left outside in the snow.
In Belluno, Salvatore Russotto, a 61-year-old bus driver for La Linea spa, has returned to work but will no longer operate a bus following an incident where a child was left on the ground in the snow. The event occurred on January 27 in San Vito di Cadore, leading to significant media attention. After an internal investigation, La Linea concluded that there were no particularly serious responsibilities attributable to Russotto, as confirmed by the company's operational director, Tiziano Idra, who stated that they reviewed onboard footage and collected testimonies from witnesses.
The investigations included an analysis of surveillance footage and informal talks with witnesses, during which Russotto was also interviewed in the presence of a union representative. While the company initially considered relocating him to another depot, Russotto expressed discomfort about returning to driving due to the public scrutiny surrounding the incident. Consequently, La Linea decided to reassign him to a different job within the company, ensuring he will no longer be driving, as a response to both his concerns and the sensitive nature of the incident.
This decision reflects La Linea's approach to managing the fallout from the incident, showcasing their commitment to employee well-being while also addressing the public sentiment regarding the safety of children in public transportation. The case has raised questions about the responsibilities of public service drivers and the measures that should be taken to prevent similar incidents in the future.
