Property worth N5.4 billion lost to fire in Osun — Report
Fire incidents in Osun State resulted in significant property damage totaling N5.42 billion in 2025, with several fatalities reported.
A report from the Osun Fire Service has revealed that property worth N5.42 billion was lost to fire outbreaks in Osun State from January to December 2025. The agency responded to 101 fire incidents during this period, along with 13 special service calls and two false alarm calls. Tragically, three lives were lost to fire-related incidents, with fatalities occurring in March, July, and August. The report highlights November as the month with the highest number of fire outbreaks, totaling 16 incidents, while January and February both saw 15 incidents each.
The Assistant Director of Operations at the Osun Fire Service, Mr. Ibrahim Adekunle, stated that human error was the primary cause of most fire outbreaks and urged the public to exercise caution when handling fire. Despite the substantial property losses, the fire service managed to save an estimated N134.4 billion worth of property during the same timeframe. This statistic underscores the importance of fire prevention and response measures in mitigating the impacts of such disasters.
As the fire service continues to focus on public safety, Adekunle's remarks serve as a reminder for residents to be vigilant about fire hazards, particularly in light of the high rate of incidents reported. The need for public awareness and proactive measures is critical to reducing fire risks and protecting lives and property in Osun State.
