14-year-old shot during barbecue in Vila Velha

A 14-year-old was shot during a barbecue in Vila Velha, Brazil, when two assailants opened fire on people gathered in the street.

On a Monday evening, a 14-year-old boy was shot while attending a barbecue in Jardim Marilândia, a neighborhood of Vila Velha in Greater Vitória, Brazil. The incident occurred when two criminals on a motorcycle shot multiple times at individuals gathered on the street. In addition to the 14-year-old, another young man was also struck by bullets during the attack.

The police reported that both victims were shot in the leg and were promptly taken to nearby healthcare facilities for treatment; however, their current medical conditions remain unknown. The second shooting victim recently came out of the prison system, having served time for drug trafficking and received a release order a few months earlier. This detail raises questions about the association between criminal backgrounds and street violence in the region.

The investigation is being handled by the Homicide and Personal Protection Division (DHPP) in Vitória, and as of now, the suspected shooters have not yet been apprehended. This incident highlights ongoing concerns about public safety and gun violence in Brazil, especially involving youth and former inmates, suggesting a need for broader community interventions and law enforcement strategies.
