Hasnat Abdullah, a prominent student leader from the July uprising, has taken an oath as a Member of Parliament in Bangladesh, wearing the same jersey he donned during the protests, drawing significant attention.
Bangladesh has witnessed the formation of a new government following the recent elections, with BNP Chief Tarique Rahman being sworn in as the new Prime Minister. Among the noteworthy developments, Hasnat Abdullah, a well-known figure from the July uprising, was sworn in as a Member of Parliament today, marking a significant transition from student leadership to parliamentary responsibilities. Notably, Hasnat chose to wear the same jersey from the July protests during his oath-taking ceremony, a choice that has sparked conversations across various platforms.
Hasnat serves as the Chief Organizer (South) of the National Citizens Party (NCP) and achieved victory in the recent 13th parliamentary elections held on February 12, securing the Kumila-4 (Debidwar) seat by winning all polling centers in that area. The oath-taking ceremony for the newly elected MPs occurred at the National Parliament House and was overseen by Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin. Hasnat, along with five other elected MPs from the NCP, have now officially taken their places in the legislative assembly.
