In Light on the Threshold of Silence – The Rothko Museum Announces the First Exhibition Season of the Year
The Rothko Museum will launch its first exhibition season of the year on February 20, featuring six new projects by artists from Italy, Finland, and Latvia.
On Friday, February 20, at 4 PM, the Rothko Museum will unveil its first exhibition season for the year with six new projects that showcase the creative explorations of artists from Italy, Finland, and Latvia. These exhibitions range from subdued and contemplative non-figurative paintings and installations to emotionally charged photographic narratives that touch upon themes of light, silence, belonging, and memory.
Among the prominent exhibitions is a solo show by Italian artist Gregorio Bota, who will be the first Italian artist to present at the Rothko Museum in Daugavpils, the birthplace of the abstract expressionism master Mark Rothko. This location is especially significant as Rothko's artistic legacy has long influenced Bota's artistic explorations, and the curator, Italian art historian and critic Bruno Corà , emphasizes the importance of this connection.
The exhibitions are intended to create a dialogue around the shared themes of light and silence, inviting viewers to reflect on their experiences and perceptions. The Rothko Museum aims to foster a deeper understanding of contemporary art through these diverse artistic expressions, celebrating the interconnectedness of various cultural influences at a pivotal art venue in Latvia.
