Hacker attack on UW. Digitalization Minister on 'malware'
A hacker attack has been identified on the IT infrastructure of the University of Warsaw, according to Poland's Deputy Prime Minister.
The University of Warsaw has recently fallen victim to a hacker attack, with malware detected on one of its workstations. This incident was reported by Krzysztof Gawkowski, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Digitalization, who emphasized the importance of cybersecurity for public institutions, including universities. Authorities have initiated a response to mitigate the effects of the breach and are looking into the perpetrators behind the attack.
Gawkowski mentioned that the incident has been reported to state security services, which are currently undertaking intensive actions to ensure safety and limit the consequences of the breach. Preliminary investigations have suggested that no personal data from the university’s resources were accessed by the cybercriminals. This statement is aimed at assuaging public concerns over potential data exploitation and highlights the university's readiness to address threats to its digital infrastructure.
In light of this incident, Gawkowski reiterated the need for public institutions and businesses to prioritize the security of their electronic systems. He called for adherence to guidelines established in the National Cybersecurity System to safeguard against future breaches, emphasizing that strengthening the cybersecurity framework is essential for the protection of national interests and personal data privacy in Poland.
