UP: Police Scorpio collides with a tree, one sub-inspector dead, four injured

A police team in Gorakhpur collided with a tree during their return from a raid, resulting in one sub-inspector's death and injuries to four others.

In Gorakhpur, the local police team was returning from a raid in Maharajganj around 6:30 AM when their Scorpio lost control, crashed into a tree after mounting a divider. Sub-inspector Santosh Kumar later succumbed to injuries at a medical facility, while Senior Sub-inspector Ramesh Chandra Kushwaha and Woman Sub-inspector Geeta remain in critical condition. Preliminary investigations suggest the driver may have dozed off, leading to this tragic incident.

The police operation was conducted in the Shyamdeourawa region, where the team included senior and junior sub-inspectors, constables, and a private driver. Officer Yogendra Singh stated that the team was en route back to Gorakhpur following the completion of their operation. The collision was severe enough to completely destroy the front end of the Scorpio, and local residents assisted in rescuing the injured from the wreckage, who were then admitted to BRD Medical College in Gorakhpur.

At the time of the crash, the highway was relatively quiet, as it occurred in the early morning, which may have contributed to the driver's loss of control. This incident raises concerns regarding the safety protocols for police operations and the well-being of personnel during such raids, highlighting the need for stricter measures to prevent driver fatigue during critical missions.
