Due to high interest, the state plans to continue providing support for the purchase of electric cars for residents
Latvia is set to introduce a new support program for the purchase of electric and hydrogen vehicles, pending government approval, with a budget of 40 million euros.
The Latvian government is preparing to launch a new support program aimed at enhancing the adoption of environmentally friendly vehicles, including electric cars, hybrid vehicles, and hydrogen-powered vehicles. This initiative responds to increased public interest in electric vehicles and will be available to residents, with special provisions for families holding the Honorary Family Certificate from Latvia, which will retain a higher level of support, potentially increasing further in specific cases. The program's funding is earmarked at 40 million euros and is intended to remain accessible until the funds are fully utilized, but no later than December 31, 2029.
Under this new support scheme, the amounts afforded for vehicle purchases will slightly diverge from those set in the previous assistance program. For instance, support for purchasing a new electric car or externally rechargeable hybrid vehicle is projected at 4,000 euros, while buyers of used electric cars will be entitled to a support amounting to 3,000 euros. The changes mean that the purchasing incentives for electric vehicles are not only continuing but are being adjusted to better meet the needs of the market and encourage broader acceptance of sustainable transportation options.
This initiative by the Latvian government reflects a growing commitment to promoting green energy and reducing the carbon footprint within the country. By providing financial support to prospective electric vehicle owners, the state aims to spearhead the transition towards a more sustainable transport system. The expected outcome is not only an increase in the number of electric vehicles on the road but also a boost in public consciousness about the benefits of environmentally friendly transportation solutions.
