The 2026 concert season at the Small Mežotne Castle will feature four special concerts to celebrate the 80th birthday of Latvian composer Peteris Vasks.

To honor the 80th anniversary of the renowned Latvian composer Peteris Vasks, the Small Mežotne Castle will host four special concerts in collaboration with the foundation established by the composer. The first concert, titled "For Peteris Vasks – 80. Celebrations," is scheduled for Saturday, June 6, at 19:00. This event will showcase a concert program featuring instrumental works and songs that have not been heard for some time, bringing together many of Vasks's musical friends and collaborators for this unique celebration.

The concert will feature a lineup of talented musicians including violinist Magdalēna Geka, violist Jevgeņija Frolova, cellist Guna Šnē, oboist Amanda Tauriņa, double bassist Matīss Eisaks, trumpeter Jenss Holms, accordionist Artūrs Noviks, percussionist Guntars Freibergs, and pianist Agnese Egliņa. Emerging vocalists from the Dailes Theatre's 10th studio group, including Agate Grīnhofa, Katrīna Altenberga, Eduards Rediko, and Ralfs Puzāns, will also perform at the concert under the musical consultancy of Juris Vaivods.

On Sunday, June 28, at 18:00, the Small Mežotne Castle will host another special concert program created for Vasks's anniversary, featuring the Trio. This concert season not only commemorates the composer’s legacy but also fosters community involvement and appreciation for his contributions to music, ensuring that audiences can engage with previously less prominent works.
