Pole accused of spying for Russia. He was to pass information about objects important for defense
A Pole has been charged with espionage for Russia, specifically for gathering and passing information related to critical defense locations in Bydgoszcz.
A Polish national, Wiktor ΕΉ., has been charged by the National Prosecutor's Office for allegedly engaging in espionage activities on behalf of the Russian intelligence. The prosecutor's office revealed that the indictment was submitted to the District Court in Bydgoszcz on February 12. The accused is alleged to have expressed a readiness to act for the intelligence of the Russian Federation and was involved in collecting and passing on sensitive information regarding key defense facilities in Poland.
The investigation has uncovered that Wiktor ΕΉ. gathered intelligence on several vital installations within Bydgoszcz, including Bydgoszcz Airport, Military Aviation Works No. 2, and the NATO Joint Forces Training Centre. According to the prosecutor's representative, these activities supposedly took place from February 28, 2024, to April 30, 2025, both within Poland and potentially abroad. This raises significant concerns regarding national security and the potential repercussions of foreign espionage in sensitive defense sectors.
The timing and gravity of the charges signal a growing vigilance in Poland regarding threats posed by foreign espionage activities, particularly from Russia, given the ongoing geopolitical tensions in Eastern Europe. The legal proceedings will likely draw public attention as they unfold, especially regarding the implications for Polandβs defense strategy and international relations, particularly with NATO partners aware of security vulnerabilities.
