Editor of EUobserver: Central Europe has long been overlooked in Western media, but this will change with the partnership with Denník N
Denník N has partnered with EUobserver to increase coverage of Central European news in Brussels.
Denník N, a Slovak news outlet, has teamed up with EUobserver, the oldest website focused on Brussels and EU affairs, making it the new publisher as of February 17, 2026. Elena Sánchez Nicolás, the editor-in-chief of EUobserver, anticipates this collaboration will bring more news from Slovakia to Brussels and help remedy the trend of Western media overlooking developments in Central Europe.
In an interview, Sánchez Nicolás discusses the unique aspects of EUobserver, which has been operational since its founding in 2000 by Lisbeth Kirk. She describes the platform's focus on delivering insightful coverage of EU matters, addressing topics that are often neglected by mainstream media. Furthermore, she highlights the challenge of effectively reporting on the complexities of the Brussels bubble and comments on the changes observed since Ursula von der Leyen assumed leadership of the European Commission.
The partnership with Denník N is expected to enhance the visibility of Central European perspectives in EU-related discussions, promoting a more inclusive narrative within the media landscape. Sánchez Nicolás expresses her hope that this collaboration will lead to a deeper understanding of Slovak issues in the context of EU policymaking, ultimately benefiting both Slovak readers and those engaged in EU affairs.
