"PTSD Worsens Due to Prosecutor's Response" - Former Prosecutor General's Sexual Assault Case, Woman Suing
A female prosecutor is suing former Osaka prosecutor Kenji Kitagawa for damages, alleging that her PTSD worsened due to the prosecutor's response to her sexual assault case.
In a significant legal battle, a former female prosecutor has brought a lawsuit against Kenji Kitagawa, aged 66, the former head of the Osaka District Prosecutors' Office, who is facing charges of quasi-forced sexual intercourse. The complainant states that she has been suffering from PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder) since the incident and is seeking approximately 83 million yen in damages from Kitagawa and the national government. During a press conference, the woman expressed her anguish, emphasizing that the prosecution has failed to recognize the harm inflicted on the dignity of its employees through its handling of her case.
Kitagawa was accused of sexually assaulting a subordinate at his official residence while under the influence of alcohol, although he initially admitted to the charges in October 2024, he later shifted to a defense claiming mutual consent in December. As the case progresses, the prosecutor alleges that her PTSD was diagnosed in December 2023, and she has appealed for the indictment to change to injuries caused by quasi-forced intercourse, arguing that the lack of appropriate explanations from prosecutors has worsened her symptoms.
Moreover, the woman claims that a deputy prosecutor, who was Kitagawa's secretary, publicly accused her of wrongdoing within the office, while superiors allegedly failed to intervene, placing her in an unsafe work environment after her complaint. Both Kitagawa's defense and the Osaka District Prosecutor's Office have stated that they cannot comment due to the ongoing legal matters.
