Deividas Matulionis Calls for Defence Attaché in Israel a Right Move: It Is Odd That There Isn't One Yet

Lithuania's advisor to the president, Deividas Matulionis, advocates for establishing a defence attaché position in Israel, emphasizing the country's military capabilities and the need for closer cooperation.

Deividas Matulionis, an advisor to the Lithuanian president, expressed his surprise over the absence of a defence attaché in Israel, highlighting the significant military capabilities and modern defence industry of the Middle Eastern state. He believes Lithuania has much to learn from Israel regarding civil protection and public resilience.

The establishment of a defence attaché position is backed by Lithuania's interests in acquiring military equipment and ensuring maintenance and stability of supply chains from Israeli manufacturers. Furthermore, Matulionis mentioned the intention to develop joint projects in the defence industry and enhance export opportunities for Lithuania's national defence sector.

The ministry proposed inaugurating the position by July of this year, pending approval from the host country. The annual costs for maintaining the defence attaché are estimated to be around €349,000, signifying a strategic investment in Lithuania’s military relationship with Israel and bolstering its defence capacity.
