The Asthma and Allergy Association with clear message: Start with pollen medicine now
The Asthma and Allergy Association in Norway advises over one million pollen allergy sufferers to begin preventative medication ahead of the pollen season.
The Asthma and Allergy Association of Norway has issued a strong recommendation for the more than one million Norwegians suffering from pollen allergies to start their medication early in preparation for the upcoming pollen season. Allergists particularly focused on birch and hazel pollen emphasize that these preventative medications are most effective when taken before exposure begins. Individuals with these specific allergies are advised to start their treatment now to maximize their effectiveness in combating symptoms as allergy season approaches.
This year's cold weather patterns have delayed the maturation of birch and hazel compared to recent years, which might affect pollen release. Hallvard Ramfjord, a senior researcher in pollen studies at the Association, noted that despite current weather conditions, a sudden rise in temperatures could lead to early blooming. Anticipated pollen release is expected to commence around the end of February and the beginning of March, particularly in southern and western parts of Norway. Allergens in TrΓΈndelag will be among the first to emerge.
The Association urges allergy sufferers to closely monitor pollen forecasts in the upcoming weeks. Early intervention is crucial, as it allows individuals to manage their symptoms more effectively and improve their quality of life during peak pollen seasons. This proactive approach not only helps to alleviate discomfort but also emphasizes the importance of being prepared as environmental conditions can change rapidly.
