Notice issued to Bareilly DM and SSP in case of preventing prayer at home; HC demands response
The Allahabad High Court has issued a contempt notice to the Bareilly DM and SSP for stopping a group prayer in a private home, emphasizing the right to pray in personal premises without government permission.
The Allahabad High Court has taken significant action against the Bareilly District Magistrate (DM) Anurag Arya and Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) for preventing a group of individuals from performing prayer in a private home in the Mohammadganj village on January 16, 2026. The Court's notice follows complaints made by Hindu families, which prompted police intervention to halt the prayer, thus raising concerns over the right to practice one's religion freely in private spaces. The division bench of Justices Atul Shridharan and Siddharth Nandan expressed dissatisfaction with this police action and initiated contempt proceedings on February 12.
