Master Ciça repeats feat of 2007 and takes command of the drum section on the Viradouro float; compare
Master Ciça, at 69, once again led the drum section of Viradouro's float, recreating a celebrated moment from 2007's parade.
Master Ciça, also known as Moacyr da Silva Pinto, made a notable return to the Viradouro samba school's parade, leading the drum section from atop a grand float much like in the critically acclaimed 2007 performance. In that year, during the parade themed "A Viradouro Vira o Jogo," the samba school dazzled spectators with a 40-meter float that replicated a giant chessboard, resulting in the school achieving high marks during the evaluations.
This year, the tradition was revived at the Marquês de Sapucaí, showcasing both nostalgia and the samba community's rich heritage while introducing new challenges. At 69 years old, Ciça not only commanded the drummers but had to return for the performance after participating in the front commission, indicating his vigorous commitment to the art and the performance. The float was immense, adorned in red and featuring a grand staircase, aiming to capture the essence of the celebrations.
This return symbolizes not just a personal achievement for Master Ciça, but it also reinforces Viradouro's legacy within the samba culture, celebrating past innovations while contributing to its dynamic future. Such performances play a significant role in maintaining the vibrancy of Brazil's cultural identity, particularly during the Carnaval season, which continues to resonate deeply within the nation's social fabric.
