Kristjan Ilves is competing in the Nordic combined event at the Milan-Cortina Olympics, aiming for a top placement after showing strong training results.
Kristjan Ilves, who previously won the jumping event at the normal hill, is set to compete in the large hill event of the Nordic combined at the Milan-Cortina Olympics. Scheduled to take place on Tuesday, the competition will see Ilves and fellow Estonian Ruubert Teder compete, with the jumping phase starting at 11 AM local time followed by a 10 km skiing event at 2:45 PM. In the lead-up to the event, Ilves has exhibited remarkable stability during training on the HS141 hill, consistently finishing in the top ten and even securing a third-place finish in one of the sessions. He expressed optimism about his performance, noting that his form is improving compared to previous competitions, and he hopes for colder weather conditions to further support his performance. His best result so far at this Olympics has been a sixth-place finish, making it the highest achievement for Estonia's Olympic team so far.
The competition will be held in the Gundersen format, with Teder going first as the 1st jumper and Ilves following as the 26th. In total, 36 Nordic combined athletes are set to compete, making it a significant event as Estonia's Ilves aims to continue his success at the Olympic level and bring attention to the Nordic sports scene in the country.
