Following alarming allegations of wiretapping involving Nigeria's National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, cybersecurity experts are urging for urgent reforms in the country’s telecommunications infrastructure. The controversy gained traction when former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai revealed that he had access to Ribadu's phone communications, raising critical concerns about the vulnerabilities prevalent in Nigeria’s communications security system.

Cybersecurity analyst Toluwani Akinniyi emphasized the seriousness of the situation, highlighting that if the communications of high-ranking officials like the NSA can be compromised, it poses a significant threat to all government communications. Akinniyi has characterized this incident as a wake-up call for the nation, suggesting that it reveals deep flaws in Nigeria's cybersecurity framework which need immediate attention and overhaul.

Akinniyi has called on the Nigerian government to conduct a comprehensive audit of its telecommunications infrastructure to identify and rectify the weaknesses that facilitated this breach.
