Biomethane advances with new initiatives in the truck segment
The heavy vehicle segment in Brazil is expanding with new models powered by biomethane, supported by initiatives like the Integra Resíduos program in São Paulo.
The heavy vehicle sector in Brazil is experiencing a significant shift towards biomethane-powered trucks. New options for heavy-duty vehicles are emerging, driven by the increasing availability of renewable gas. The Integra Resíduos program in São Paulo is poised to boost production by 50% by 2026 with the launch of seven new biogas production facilities. This initiative is part of a broader effort to transition to more sustainable fuel alternatives in the transportation industry.
Biomethane is establishing itself as a viable alternative to diesel, particularly in heavy-duty applications. Scania has led the way in offering biomethane solutions for trucks, but it is now facing competition from Chinese manufacturer JAC Motors. These new heavy-duty gas vehicles are seen as essential to the logistics strategies of Brazilian companies like Green Cargo, which is actively investing in less polluting transport solutions. Vehicles powered by biomethane are equipped with high power capabilities and extended range, making them attractive options for cargo transportation.
Green Cargo plans to deploy between 150 to 200 biomethane trucks over the next year and has already formed partnerships with major companies such as JBS, Suzano, Veracel, and Eldorado. These partnerships will play a crucial role in the validation phases of the new trucks, emphasizing the growing importance of sustainable transport solutions in Brazil. With increased production capacities and ongoing investments in cleaner technologies, biomethane is set to transform the Brazilian heavy vehicle market.
