The Comisión Reguladora de Telecomunicaciones (CRT) in Mexico has confirmed that during the upcoming regional emergency drill scheduled for February 18, Apple devices will display a 'Presidential Alert' message. This remains unchanged despite the anticipation of modifications to the alert system requested by users. The modification process, which includes public consultation, is still underway and is expected to conclude on February 16.
The CRT highlighted that the changes to the alert message displayed on iPhones and other devices will not take effect until around April, following the conclusion of input from the public to adjust the built-in alert message that manufacturers implemented by default. The regulatory body has been working to address concerns regarding the default labeling and is committed to considering public feedback in this process.
Additionally, the CRT mentioned that the volume of alerts is preset by manufacturers based on international safety standards. As Mexico continues to prepare for various emergency scenarios, this exercise aims to ensure that citizens are aware of warning systems and how they function during crises, underlining the importance of effective communication during emergencies.
