Lebanon sets four months to complete the second phase of disarming Hezbollah

The Lebanese government announced that the army will require at least four months to complete the second phase of its plan to disarm Hezbollah in southern Lebanon.

The Lebanese government has declared that the army requires a minimum of four months to execute the second phase of its disarmament plan aimed at Hezbollah, covering the area from the north of the Litani River to the Auli River. Information Minister Paul Marqab, during a press conference, stated that the cabinet is aware of the army's monthly report regarding the disarmament strategy in all Lebanese regions, which is in line with a cabinet decision to remove Hezbollah's weapons.

The second phase specifically targets regions that are about 60 kilometers from the Israeli border and around 40 kilometers south of Beirut, extending from north of the Litani River to the Auli River, which flows north of Sidon. Marqab added that the timeline of four months could be extended depending on the available resources, field obstacles, and potential Israeli aggressions that might hinder the process.

This operation is part of a broader five-phase plan proposed by the Lebanese army to disarm Hezbollah effectively. The first phase, which concluded at the beginning of January, focused on southern areas of Lebanon, particularly south of the Litani River, marking a significant step in the government's efforts to regulate and restrict armed groups within its territory.
