Poulin breaks Olympic women’s scoring record
Marie-Philip Poulin of Canada has set a new record for career goals in women's Olympic hockey with her 19 goals across five tournaments.
Marie-Philip Poulin has made history by breaking the Olympic women’s hockey scoring record during a semifinal match against Switzerland, becoming the all-time leader with 19 goals. This remarkable achievement surpasses the previous record of 18 goals held by her former teammate, Hayley Wickenheiser. Poulin’s scoring prowess has been particularly evident in Olympic finals; she is the only player, male or female, to have scored in all four finals she has participated in.
The Canadian captain, originally from Beauceville, Quebec, faced challenges this tournament as she needed to sit out two group stage games due to a knee injury. Her determination led her back on the ice in Canada’s quarterfinal win over Germany, where she scored not only in that match but also secured her 18th career goal, marking a significant comeback.
Poulin's ability to perform under pressure contributes significantly to her team’s success and showcases her as a pivotal player in women’s hockey. As she continues to compete at a high level, her record not only highlights her personal achievements but also serves to inspire future generations of female athletes in the sport.
