The Oyo State Government of Nigeria has formally presented its implementation blueprint for the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) to the Government of Botswana during a high-level meeting held in Gaborone. This initiative forms part of Oyo State's broader strategy to deepen trade cooperation within the framework of the AfCFTA, which seeks to promote intra-African trade and economic integration. The meeting involved significant discussions with Botswana’s Minister of Trade and Entrepreneurship, Tiroeaone Ntsima, highlighting the state’s commitment to fostering stronger bilateral relationships.

Neo Tlhaselo, the Special Adviser on International Trade and AfCFTA to Governor Seyi Makinde, who represented the Oyo State Government at the meeting, emphasized the importance of economic diplomacy in effectively implementing the AfCFTA strategy. He articulated that strengthening economic ties through diplomatic channels is crucial for opening Oyo State to various businesses and enhancing trade exchanges with Botswana.
