The blockade suffocates it.. El País: Cuba on the hot plate

Cuba is experiencing a decline in the achievements of its historical revolution in healthcare and education due to a suffocating economic and geopolitical crisis, as reported by El País.

Cuba is facing a serious crisis, with its achievements in healthcare and education deteriorating under the strain of economic and geopolitical challenges, as highlighted in a report by El País from journalists David Marcial Pérez and Carla Gloria Colomi. The report indicates that everyday Cubans are becoming victims of a rigid system that now relies primarily on "security repression," leaving them in despair amid the ruins of a country once celebrated for its revolutionary advancements.

The medical services that used to be a source of pride for the regime and received international accolades are now nearly non-existent, as hospitals struggle with a shortage of medications and an exodus of medical personnel. This deterioration has prompted international organizations to shift their previous praises to warnings about an escalating humanitarian crisis, marking a stark turnaround from earlier endorsements.

The report attributes this collapse to the tightening of oil supplies and the imposition of a stronger blockade, resulting in the breakdown of the health, education, and poverty alleviation programs that former Cuban leader Fidel Castro once touted as "revolutionary gains." The number of doctors in Cuba has plummeted from one for every 350 people in the 1980s to one for every 1500 patients today, indicating that education is equally suffering from the ongoing crisis.
