Iraqi-Emirati alliance intends to create a data cable linking the Gulf to Turkey
An Iraqi-Emirati alliance plans a $700 million data cable project to connect the UAE to Turkey through Iraq.
An Iraqi-Emirati alliance has announced a significant infrastructure project, planning to install a $700 million data cable that will connect the Gulf region to Turkey via Iraq. The project, named "World Link", was detailed by Ali Al-Aqabi, the head of the Iraqi company Tik 964, one of the three companies in the alliance. The cable will start from Fujairah in the UAE, navigate through the Iraqi Peninsula in Al-Faw, and extend northwards to the Turkish border, establishing a critical data route in the region.
In addition to Tik 964, the alliance includes Iraqi company DIL Technologies and UAE-based Brizz Investments. The project is aimed at enhancing connectivity, particularly targeting major cloud computing companies, international data transport operators, and applications that leverage artificial intelligence requiring high capacities and low response times. Al-Aqabi emphasized that the funding for the project will come from the private sector, with an estimated completion timeline of four to five years.
This initiative is expected to ease bottlenecks in data transmission in the region, as it will provide a more direct route for data traffic between the UAE and Turkey. As digital connectivity becomes increasingly vital for economic growth and technological development, this cable project could play a significant role in facilitating international communications and enhancing the overall digital infrastructure of the Middle East.
