The state budget started the year with a deficit of 3.7 billion zlotys
As of January 2026, Poland's state budget reports a deficit of 3.7 billion zlotys, reflecting a 1.4% realization of the annual budget limit.
In January 2026, Poland's state budget concluded with a deficit of 3.7 billion zlotys, as reported by the Ministry of Finance. This figure represents 1.4% of the total annual budget limit of 271 billion zlotys, indicating a slight deterioration compared to the same period in 2025 when the deficit was recorded at 3.2 billion zlotys. The budget's challenging start suggests potential difficulties ahead in meeting fiscal targets for the year.
Despite the deficit, state revenues increased significantly, amounting to 55.6 billion zlotys, which corresponds to 8.6% of the annual planning target. This marks a substantial increase of approximately 8.2 billion zlotys, or 17.2%, compared to the previous year, where revenues were 47.4 billion zlotys. This rise is largely driven by improvements in tax revenues, which showed robust growth.
Tax revenues, which reached 50.7 billion zlotys, were 17.5% higher than last year. Notably, revenues from VAT surged to 42.4 billion zlotys, equating to a year-over-year increase of 23.7%. This growth is attributed to a positive economic climate, reflecting a broader trend in Poland's recovery post-pandemic and suggesting an overall improvement in fiscal health despite the current deficit, as officials aim to balance budgetary needs with economic growth initiatives.
