VIDEO: Unique! An entrepreneur grows furniture in Kurzeme

A Latvian entrepreneur has harvested the first pieces of furniture—specifically a chair and a lampshade—from a unique furniture nursery in Kurzeme, which is the only one of its kind in Northern Europe.

On February 16, at the furniture nursery "Meža dizaina dārzs," the first two pieces of furniture—a chair and a lampshade—were harvested. This innovative nursery, located in the Cīrava parish of South Kurzeme, represents a unique venture as it is the only one of its kind in Northern Europe. The nursery's owner, Uldis, is an arborist who began this unusual project six years ago, investing five years into nurturing the furniture, allowing branches to grow in specific directions, thus creating unique designs.

Uldis drew inspiration for this unusual craft from foreign trips, learning techniques that are rare, as only ten people worldwide are known to pursue this form of furniture cultivation. The process involves meticulous care and attention to detail, with each piece requiring years of growth and shaping to become a functional object. The nursery not only highlights innovative farming practices but also emphasizes sustainability and creativity in furniture design.

This initiative reflects a growing trend in Latvia and beyond, where artisans are looking for sustainable and unique ways to create products that stand out in the market. As the furniture world leans towards eco-friendliness, such unique projects may pave the way for future businesses, encouraging other entrepreneurs to explore similar sustainable ventures in furniture and design.
