The Memory Museum, located in Mikkeli, Finland, has encountered an unusual problem where an unidentified individual has been regularly feeding pigeons at the museum entrance. This behavior has persisted daily since the beginning of the year, causing concern for the museum staff. Pia Puntanen, the content director at the museum, reported that on her way to work, she found dozens of pigeons congregating at the entrance, indicating they were being fed there. In response to this situation, the museum has installed a sign to discourage further feeding.

The entrance of the Memory Museum is notable as it once served as the main entryway for Marshal Carl Gustaf Emil Mannerheim's headquarters during wartime, and the museum exhibits his office as it was during that period. The presence of the pigeons not only detracts from the museum's aesthetic but also poses sanitary issues, with staff having to clean up seeds and other food left behind, as well as concerns over pigeon droppings accumulating there. Puntanen expressed the museum's desire to maintain a clean environment at the entrance for visitors.

Additionally, Olli-Pekka Leskinen, the museum's director, noted the troubling discovery of a deceased pigeon at the site, which emphasizes the potential health implications of feeding the birds. This issue reflects a broader challenge that cultural institutions might face in preserving their environments while managing unintended consequences of wildlife interactions, as well as the need for community cooperation to uphold the museum's integrity and visitor experience.
