"I have neither read nor will I read it": Sheinbaum on Julio Scherer's book

President Claudia Sheinbaum stated she has not and will not read the book "Neither Revenge nor Forgiveness" by Julio Scherer, which includes accusations against her advisor.

Claudia Sheinbaum, the President of Mexico, addressed the media regarding the new book titled "Neither Revenge nor Forgiveness" authored by Julio Scherer Ibarra and journalist Jorge Fernández Menéndez. This book has drawn attention due to its accusations against Jesús Ramírez, who is the current coordinator of advisors to the Presidency. During her morning press conference at the National Palace, Sheinbaum expressed her decision to not engage with the book, stating her belief that it would not resonate much with audiences outside of the political elite, which she referred to as the 'red circle.'

In her remarks, Sheinbaum emphasized the importance of both criticism and self-criticism in her administration but pointed out that her focus remains on the goals of her political movement, which she describes as a transformation project for Mexico. She urged the importance of being consistent with one’s values and mission, highlighting that her position as president is not driven by a quest for power but rather a mandate from the people for meaningful change. She reaffirmed her commitment to this transformative agenda, indicating that political critiques should not derail their efforts.

Sheinbaum’s comments reflect the broader dynamics of Mexican politics where criticisms from former allies or members of the administration can intensify factional debates. Her dismissal of Scherer’s book could be interpreted as an attempt to maintain focus on her administration's objectives while minimizing the potential for media narratives to disrupt their focus. The ongoing political discussions in Mexico are critical as the country navigates various social and political challenges, and Sheinbaum’s stance reinforces her position as a leader committed to her government’s vision, unencumbered by external critiques.
