Woman reports aggression after refusing to pay 'parking attendant' in Cuiabá parking lot; video
A female driver reported being assaulted by a self-appointed 'parking attendant' in Cuiabá after refusing to pay a fee for parking in a public space.
A woman in Cuiabá, Brazil, has filed a police report after being assaulted by a man she identified as a 'flanelinha'—a term used for informal parking attendants. The incident occurred on Saturday, October 14, when the victim parked her car in a public space on Avenida do CPA, near the National Service of Commercial Learning (Senac). According to the woman, the man confronted her and demanded payment for parking, claiming to work for the Senac, a claim the institution later denied.
The woman recounted that after she refused to pay the fee, the situation escalated, resulting in physical aggression from the parking attendant. She captured the confrontation on video, which has since added a critical piece of evidence to the case. Following the incident, the Senac issued a statement clarifying that they do not even authorize any form of payment for parking in front of their premises and do not recognize the man as one of their employees.
Cuiabá's Municipal Public Order Secretariat also stated that no individual has the authorization to charge fees for parking in public spaces. This case highlights the ongoing issues with informal parking practices in Brazilian cities and the need for enforcement against unauthorized charges. It raises questions about public safety and the necessity for clearer regulation regarding public parking areas.
