The surprise twist of Yle's Olympic commentator's work trip - 'He began to seize'
Sports commentator Mikko Aaltonen intervened during a train ride when a fellow passenger suffered a seizure.
During a recent train ride from Tampere to Helsinki, Finnish sports commentator Mikko Aaltonen experienced an unexpected event when a passenger across the aisle suffered a seizure. The passenger began to convulse and collapsed onto the aisle floor, prompting Aaltonen to act quickly. Despite managing to catch the individual for a moment, he noted that the passenger's nose hit the floor, causing him to bleed. Aaltonen assessed that the man was still alive and alerted the other passengers that he would go seek assistance from the train conductors.
Aaltonen's decisive actions led to a rapid response, as one of the conductors made a call, presumably to emergency services, while another announced the need for medical personnel over the train’s intercom. Upon returning to his carriage with the conductors, Aaltonen saw that the ailing man was receiving help from medical staff, along with additional assistance from a doctor who happened to be nearby. At this point, Aaltonen chose to step back and observe from a distance as first aid was administered.
These dramatic moments unfolded as the train departed from Hämeenlinna, heading south, and they culminated when the train reached Riihimäki station, where emergency personnel and an ambulance were waiting to attend to the situation. This incident highlights the importance of quick thinking in emergencies and showcases Aaltonen's willingness to help others in need during a crisis.
