The Auvere station breakdown cost consumers 4.5 million
The recent breakdown of the Auvere power station cost consumers approximately 4.5 million euros, as disclosed in a Estonian Parliament committee meeting.
The recent malfunction of the Auvere power station has resulted in a significant financial impact on consumers, with estimates placing the cost at around 4.5 million euros. This revelation was made by Andrus Durejko, CEO of Eesti Energia, during a recent session of the Estonian Parliament's budget control committee, where discussions centered on the current developments in the electricity market and their repercussions on the national budget.
Durejko pointed out that the Auvere power plant, which has been offline for nearly a month, has had detrimental effects on consumers relying on the stock package for electricity. He explained that every year, Eesti Energia invests approximately 40 million euros in preventative maintenance for the Auvere station; however, funds for maintaining other power plants are scarce, forcing the company to adopt a reactive approach in addressing issues with them instead.
Additionally, Rein Vaks, the head of the energy department at the Ministry of Climate, highlighted discussions on an upcoming renewable energy bidding process, set for the first quarter of this year. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to enhance energy production capabilities, which will be crucial given the current struggles within the energy sector in Estonia, particularly in the context of financial losses incurred due to the Auvere station's failure.
