Book of the Year 2025: Vote for Your Literary Favorites

Voting for the fourth annual Book of the Year awards by Deník N begins today and will last until February 28.

Deník N has officially launched public voting for its fourth annual Book of the Year awards, which will continue until February 28, 2025. This initiative invites readers to engage and express their literary preferences, with results scheduled to be published on March 13 in a special printed supplement as well as on the Deník N website. The competition aims to honor outstanding works in Czech literature and culture.

To create the list of finalists, Deník N consulted prominent figures from the Czech literary and cultural scenes, requesting their nominations for notable titles. These suggestions were then compiled to form rankings that will be presented for public voting. The nominated works are classified into two main categories: fiction, which includes novels, poetry, plays, and comics for both children and adults, and non-fiction, featuring various forms of factual literature, biographies, and scientific or popular science books.

The announcement also includes a preview of the nominated titles, arranged alphabetically by author, highlighting an array of literary contributions, including works by Jan Němec and Markéta Pilátová among others. This competitive spirit not only encourages public participation every year but also fosters a deeper appreciation for the rich tapestry of Czech literature, celebrating both established and emerging voices in the literary community.
