Ondo APC gains hundreds of PDP defectors

Over 300 members of the Peoples Democratic Party in Ondo State have joined the All Progressives Congress, further consolidating the ruling party's strength in the region.

In a significant political shift in Ondo State, over 300 members of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). This mass migration of party members is expected to considerably weaken the PDP's influence in the state, as the defectors hail from various wards across all 18 local government areas. The shift is perceived as a critical development ahead of the upcoming general elections, as it bolsters the APC's position in the region.

The state Chairman of the APC, Mr. Ade Adetimehin, welcomed the new members at the party's Secretariat in Akure, emphasizing that their defection is a testament to APC’s strong internal structure and leadership capabilities. He highlighted the party's ability to maintain cohesion and integrate newcomers without disrupting the current dynamics, suggesting that the influx of members is not only a sign of the party’s growing popularity but also indicates its organizational strength.

This event is seen as a significant tactical advantage for the APC, which is gearing up for the upcoming elections under the leadership of President Bola Tinubu. By absorbing a substantial number of PDP members, the APC hopes to strengthen its electoral prospects not just in Ondo State, but potentially across Nigeria, as party loyalty becomes critical in ensuring electoral success.
