Bauchi seeks more Hajj slots for 2026 pilgrims
Bauchi State requests an increase in Hajj slots from Saudi Arabia for the 2026 pilgrimage due to rising demand.
The Bauchi State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board is actively seeking an increase in the number of Hajj slots allocated to the state for the 2026 pilgrimage. In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria, Malam Hashimu Sadiq, the board's Director of Educational Enlightenment, expressed concern that the current allocation of 2,600 slots would not meet the demand among its residents, especially in light of the previous yearβs successful utilization of their allocated slots.
Sadiq highlighted the growing interest among residents in performing the Hajj pilgrimage in 2026, indicating that many more individuals are looking to participate than the slots currently allow. Last year, the state effectively used all 2,516 slots granted for the 2025 pilgrimage, underscoring the commitment of the community towards the Hajj. With increasing numbers of intending pilgrims, the board believes it is essential to request additional slots to adequately accommodate all interested participants.
Furthermore, the board is reported to have made significant preparations for the pilgrimage, including the arrangement of welfare services and logistical support such as medical care and accommodation for pilgrims. This proactive approach indicates the board's dedication to ensuring a successful and smooth pilgrimage experience for the participants, should the Saudi authorities respond favorably to their plea for additional slots.
