Sokoto ADC kicks against imposed leadership
The Sokoto State chapter of the African Democratic Congress opposes the appointment of new party leaders without consultation, warning of potential legal action if the decision is not reversed.
The Sokoto State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has raised strong objections to the recent appointments of Abdullahi Maigwandu and Aliyu Rabah as the Chairman and Secretary of the party's Membership, Mobilisation, Revitalisation, and Registration (MMRR) Committee. During a press conference at the ADC State Secretariat, Chairman Umar Faruk emphasized that these appointments were imposed externally, without any consultative process with the recognized state executive or local party members. This unilateral decision has been described as an impending threat to the internal cohesion of the party.
Faruk articulated that the actions taken by the national leadership of the ADC violate the party's constitution and undermine the principles of internal democracy that are foundational for the party's existence in Sokoto. He stressed the importance of engaging those who have diligently worked to develop the party's structure within the state, arguing that sidelining local leaders jeopardizes the party's unity and effectiveness. He voiced concerns that such decisions could alienate grassroots support critical for the party's future.
The MMRR committee, which plays a strategic role in promoting grassroots mobilization and enhancing membership registration, stands to be significantly impacted by this internal discord. The Sokoto ADC's leadership has warned that if the imposed appointments are not reversed, they may be compelled to seek legal redress. This conflict within the party highlights deep-seated issues regarding governance and representation that could influence the ADC's performance in upcoming elections and its ability to maintain a cohesive organizational structure in Sokoto State.
