Teen rapist threw boiling water over inmate's genitals in prison attack

A convicted rapist attacked another inmate in prison by pouring boiling water over him, resulting in severe injuries.

In a shocking incident at HMP Nottingham, Ethan Rowley, a then-19-year-old convicted rapist, launched a brutal attack on a fellow inmate by throwing boiling water over his genitals. This horrific act occurred while Rowley was already serving a 21-year sentence for serious sexual offences. As a result of this seemingly motiveless attack, which left the victim with severe burns and skin hanging from his genitalia and legs, Rowley has been sentenced to an additional nine months in prison by Nottingham Crown Court.

The judge, Michael Auty KC, described the attack as exceptionally serious, particularly in light of Rowley's young age and prior substantial sentence. Despite Rowley's conviction for raping another individual, the court noted that the specific motivations behind this new act of violence were unclear. The severity of the injuries inflicted upon the victim is alarming, and the long-term impacts remain uncertain, as the victim has not fully cooperated with medical assessments.

This case highlights not only the issue of violence within prison systems but also raises questions about the treatment and oversight of inmates who already have a history of committing serious crimes. As Rowley serves his extended sentence, the incident underscores the ongoing challenges faced by correctional facilities in managing violent behavior among inmates and ensuring the safety and wellbeing of all individuals within the prison system.
