Tajani: 'Italy in the Board of Peace as an observer like the European Commission'. Today government summit
Italy has been invited to join the Board of Peace as an observer, a position chosen to respect constitutional constraints, according to Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani.
Italy's Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani announced that the country will attend the Board of Peace meeting as an observer, a role he emphasized is 'appropriate' considering the European Commission will also participate in this capacity. He highlighted that this decision stems from the need to align with constitutional principles, particularly citing a conflict between the Board's Article 9 and the Italian Constitution. Tajani elaborated that despite participating as an observer, Italy continues to play a significant role in supporting Gaza and is committed to contributing further to peace efforts in the region.
During the conference following his bilateral meeting with Canadian counterpart Anita Anand, Tajani reiterated Italy's substantial contributions to Gaza and outlined ongoing commitments including the formation of the new Gazan police force and support for the Palestinian police. He asserted that Italy’s engagement comes from a direct interest in Middle East stability and the broader process of building peace. The emphasis on collaboration and capacity-building reflects Italy's strategic positioning and responsibility towards the humanitarian situation in the region.
This deliberate choice to participate as an observer aligns Italy with broader European strategies and emphasizes the importance of constitutional fidelity in diplomatic representation. The move signals Italy’s intention to remain active in international discussions while navigating the complexities of domestic laws and international cooperation, particularly in a region as tumultuous as the Middle East.
