Samba schools parade returns to the center of São José dos Campos this Monday, after 13 years

The samba schools of São José dos Campos are set to return to the streets after a 13-year hiatus, with the parade scheduled for Monday evening.

After a long absence of 13 years, the samba schools in São José dos Campos will once again take to the streets for a parade on Monday, January 16. The event, which was confirmed by the city’s government in December last year, aims to bring a festive atmosphere back to the central region of the city. The parade will begin at 7 PM and will follow a route that includes Avenida Doutor Nelson D’Ávila, Praça Afonso Pena, and Rua 15 de Novembro, showcasing the vibrant culture of samba to residents and visitors alike.

This year, five samba schools will participate in the parade: Balaio, Estrela de Prata, Acadêmicos do Santa Cruz, Raízes Jovens, and Sol Nascente. Notably, there will be no competition among the schools this year; instead, each school will take part in the performance and receive a trophy for their involvement. This decision reflects a community-focused approach to reviving the event, prioritizing celebration and inclusion over competition.

The city’s administration has arranged for enhanced security and traffic management to ensure a smooth and safe experience for attendees. Additionally, public transport will adapt by extending nighttime bus schedules and offering free rides to facilitate access for those attending the parade. This initiative not only supports local transportation needs but also aims to encourage greater participation in the city’s cultural revival activities.
