Malawi: MP Fredokiss Kalua Takes SONA to His Constituency, Engages Communities in Soche, Zingwangwa, Calling for People-Driven Development
MP Fredokiss Kalua is advocating for community-led development as he engages with constituents during his visits.
Fredokiss Kalua, the Member of Parliament for Soche Zingwangwa, recently undertook a two-day initiative called 'Taking SONA to the People' aimed at promoting community engagement in the development process. During his visits to communities in Nkolokosa A and B, Soche East, and Manja, he underscored the importance of creating a development agenda that is informed by the needs and priorities of the constituents. This grassroots approach aims to ensure that the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) of K5 billion is allocated to areas that the residents consider most urgent.
Kaluaβs strategy involves holding individual meetings within various communities to facilitate deeper discussions about local concerns and social issues. By promoting these inclusive dialogues, he aims to ensure that all voices, especially the underrepresented, are heard. This method not only strengthens the sense of community but also enables Kalua to gather more comprehensive insights into what the people want. He highlighted that effective development should be rooted in genuine community participation, encouraging constituents to express their needs in a supportive environment.
The MP has committed to collaborating closely with local councillors and community leaders to identify critical priorities moving forward. This commitment signals a shift toward a more participatory governance model in Malawi, where the focus will be on accountability and transparency in how development funds are utilized. By prioritizing a people-driven development strategy, Kalua hopes to build trust and ensure that the developmental initiatives are truly reflective of the constituents' aspirations.
