Nigeria: Zamfara Subeb Inaugurates Anti-Corruption, Transparency Unit (Actu)
The Zamfara State Universal Basic Education Board has launched its Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit to enhance ethical standards and accountability in education administration.
The Zamfara State Universal Basic Education Board (ZSUBEB) has officially inaugurated its Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU) aimed at tackling issues of corruption within the state's basic education sector. Led by Executive Chairman Professor Nasiru Garba Anka, the board is taking a significant step towards fostering transparency and ethical conduct, essential for improving educational service delivery. This initiative is expected to not only prevent corrupt practices but also promote a culture of integrity among staff and stakeholders.
Professor Anka emphasized the importance of this unit, citing the ongoing challenges posed by corruption, particularly in areas that affect the quality and accessibility of education. He highlighted the collaborative role of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) in guiding the establishment of the ACTU, suggesting a strategic partnership aimed at enhancing the board's operational integrity. This collaboration is crucial as it aims to develop internal systems that effectively identify and mitigate corrupt practices.
With the establishment of the ACTU, ZSUBEB plans to implement various mechanisms for staff education, vulnerability assessments, and promotion of due process in administrative functions. The board's efforts reflect a broader trend in Nigeria aimed at enhancing operational transparency in public institutions, particularly those overseeing critical services such as education, which are vital to sustainable development and national growth.
