'Begging for stronger medication,' says aunt of woman burned at carnival party in Mogi das Cruzes; victim will be transferred

The family of a woman severely burned during a carnival event in Mogi das Cruzes is calling for better medical care as she awaits transfer to a specialized facility.

Jennifer Rodrigues Monteiro, a 30-year-old buffet worker, suffered severe burns while working at a carnival party at the Clube de Campo in Mogi das Cruzes. The incident occurred on Friday, the 13th, when a food warmer caught fire, leading to her injuries. Her family has voiced concerns over the quality of medical care she has received thus far, asserting that she is in extreme pain and is in desperate need of stronger medication.

Her aunt, Adriana Rodrigues, criticized the treatment provided at the local hospital, describing it as 'superficial' and expressing fears regarding the potential for infection. As Jennifer remains conscious yet in agony, her family has been advocating for her to receive the dignified treatment she deserves. Following their appeals, local authorities arranged for her transfer to the Santa Casa facility in São José dos Campos for specialized medical evaluation, with the transfer scheduled for Tuesday, the 17th.

This unfortunate incident highlights ongoing issues regarding safety standards at public events in Brazil, especially during the carnival season, which is known for its festivities but can also present hazards. The family's call for improved medical care raises important questions about the healthcare system's responsiveness and the need for higher standards of care for victims of such accidents, underlining the need for better safety measures in venues hosting large gatherings.
