After more than six years closed, the Library of the Forest will be reopened in Rio Branco with a new cultural space
The Library of the Forest in Rio Branco, Brazil, is set to reopen on March 20 after undergoing extensive renovations and upgrades since shutting down in 2019.
The Library of the Forest, located in the Maternity Park in Rio Branco, Brazil, will be officially reopened on March 20 according to the Elias Mansour Cultural Foundation (FEM). The library has been closed to the public since 2019 due to renovation work that included structural upgrades, electrical system updates, and changes to enhance accessibility. This closure period was also marked by a fire in May 2022 that damaged part of its collection.
The renovations have been extensive, addressing every area of the building. Work included painting, replacing worn flooring, roof replacement, and a complete overhaul of the electrical installations and air conditioning system. Key renovations were aimed at making the library more accessible and functional for all visitors, particularly those with disabilities. The project's overseer, engineer Gicélia Viana, noted that the architectural features of the library were preserved during these updates.
With the reopening, the community can expect a revitalized cultural space that not only serves as a library but also aims to foster engagement with the local culture. The Library of the Forest will be crucial in promoting literacy, education, and cultural activities, marking a significant step in restoring a vital community resource after years of closure and neglect.
