Political prisoners in Slovakia will be commemorated with a memorial of handprints in Jáchymov, highlighting their stories and sacrifices during the communist regime.
A group of friends and activists in Slovakia have initiated a project to create a memorial for political prisoners from the communist era, specifically those imprisoned for their beliefs and forced into labor in uranium mines. They are spearheaded by political scientist Tomáš Bouška, who emphasizes the importance of preserving the stories and sacrifices of these individuals. On a cold winter weekend, they visit 91-year-old Rudolf Dobiáš, a former political prisoner himself, to directly engage with the personal narratives that have shaped their collective history.
